Measure - Frequencies less than a day

Hi Martyn,

Is there a reason you need to capture measure data every n minutes?

Measures are not really intended for short real time data display. They are intended to capture data in a particular state at a particular time so you can report on data over a long period time. Running a measure capture sequence every n minutes would be very resource intensive.

If you want to show real time counters you would be better off using the count list widget and just add 1 item to the list, it basically looks the same as a target counter then, plus you can write your own custom sql to get the value you want to display and there is no need to store lots of data every n minutes which is what a measure does.

As for the widget refresh option, that is a generic propertysheet and option for all widgets hence you have the ability to set a refresh on n minutes, but whats the point in the case of widget using a measure however when using a list counter you would want to refresh it.

Cheers

@NeilWJ

The aim of using a measure with a shorter frequency, would be able to capture more detailed information regarding levels of requests at certain status or position during the day, but would be over a shorter retention period of time in order to keep the storage impact sensible.

In essence we want to use coloured Target Indicators widget to give us as representation of the current position during the day, allowing us to spot problem area's/requests so that they can be dealt with within SLA. A significant proportion of our SLA's involve time periods less than a day.

Using the real time counters only allows us to display a list of number not show a coloured status board on the dashboard screen.

In essence having the measure frequency only down to a day, allows us to monitor how we have did. What we are trying to move to is 'how are we we doing' whilst still having time to potentially affect 'how we did'. Hope that makes sense.

Cheers

Hi Martyn,

So as discussed in your other post you will be better off using a list counter with 1 item for real time stats. Also it is easier for me to fix/change stuff in a list counter as altering how measures work would involve a lot more work ;-).

If you have any issues using the list counter for this let me know.

Cheers
